Heritage Collection

  The Cherokee Public Library Heritage Collection contains materials relating to the people and history of Cherokee, Cherokee County, and/or the State of Iowa. The collection consists of books, pamphlets, and other materials as acquisitioned. The Heritage Room will also serve as a reference space where individuals can utilize resources that are restricted to in-house use such as but not limited to maps, annuals, plat books, and the library’s institutional history.

All materials housed in the Heritage Room belong to the Cherokee Public Library and may not be removed from the building without express permission from the Library Director. Photocopies may be made by library staff upon request for the normal rates provided the source is not in poor condition. It is the responsibility of the researcher to follow all copyright laws.

 

Research Requests

Library Staff will refer all genealogical and history research requests to the Cherokee Area Archives or available online databases. Staff will help patrons regarding the digitized newspaper or other online resources as they would any other request for technical assistance.

All donations fall under the guidelines set forward in other policies.
