About the Library Director

Meet Zach Freking-Smith, our library director.

Zach is career-minded and driven,  He is passionate about his job at the Cherokee Public Library. Though his job experience is very diverse, ranging from factory work to running a drama department,
the one place that is always home is back at the library. "I have worked in libraries for over five years and, through that time, I have definitely been given a lot more skills than successfully being able to say the alphabet frontwards and backwards. Thanks to my library jobs, I have learned how to communicate with people, how to lead, how to follow, how to grow along with others."

Zach graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a B.A. in Communication Studies with an emphasis on Performance Studies.

Zach has been working as Library Director since June 2016.

Do stop by to visit with Zach.  He looks forward to meeting everyone and hearing your comments and suggestions about our library.
