Children's Corner - Fizz, Boom, Read!

Schedule for “FIZZ, BOOM, READ” summer reading program.

As I mentioned in my last article, I would have more information as to when various programs would be offered for the “FIZZ, BOOM, READ” summer reading program.

If you would like to sign-up your child for the summer reading program call 712-225-3498 and ask for Peg or stop in at the library.  Please have the following information ready for the librarian:  your child or children’s first and last name, what grade they just completed, your phone number, and the parent’s name.

This summer we will have a Scholastic Book Fair at the Cherokee Public Library.  It will start Monday, June 16 and go through Friday, June 20.  Books for all ages will be on display and available for purchase upstairs in the children’s department.  The fair will be open during the library’s regular summer hours.

Donna Lee will help adults and children stretch and tone up their bodies with some Yoga moves on Wednesday, June 18 from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. in the children’s department.

The library will have legos available for those who would like to put their building skills to work.  The participants will need to build according to a theme and their creations will be displayed in the library until the next lego program.  The lego programs will be Thursday, June 19 and June 26 from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m.

Pre-school Story Time will meet every Tuesday during the months of June and July from 10:30 – 11:00 a.m.  This is for children who are three to five years old.  We will read stories and do activities that go along with our “FIZZ, BOOM, READ” program.

The Terrific Toddler Story Time will meet every Thursday during the month of June and July from 10:30 – 11:00 a.m.  This program is for children who are one to three years old and a responsible adult.  We will do action rhymes, music activities, finger plays, a short story, and other activities that can be taken home.

As in the past years, Sanford Museum has partnered with us for our Summer Reading Programs and the Friends of the Library group has provided funds for our programs.  They will be doing the same for us this year which allows us to have plenty of room for those who wish to take part in the programs and the programs are free.

Don’t forget to check with your child for the “FIZZ, BOOM, READ” flyer in their backpack from School or pick one up at the library.

This resource is supported by the Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act as administered by State Library of Iowa.
